A complete ‘tip’ to ‘toe’ renovation of this majestic 1829 Stone Farm House
created the perfect rustic fishing cottage for the owners and their family.
The homeowners’ vision was to take this ‘well worn’ 1829 Stone Farm House and create a rustic yet elegant fishing retreat for their family to enjoy. The project is highlighted by a perfect combination of modern, efficient systems and features that are historic in character and custom built to meet the flavor of the cottage.
The process required a complete ‘gut out’ down to the bare stone, leaving only the exterior stone walls and the staircase to the second floor. The third story and roof structure were entirely rebuilt, accommodating a new suite for guests or staff. New historically accurate windows and doors were installed with custom milled trim. State of the art mechanical systems, housed beneath the new rear patio, were installed including radiant and hydronic heating and air conditioning throughout.
During demolition, a third stone fireplace was discovered behind a plaster wall that has become a functional centerpiece in the master suite. The exposed stone, real plaster walls and new antique barn wood floors add to the interior character of the cottage. The lower level contains the family’s living space found in the new all glass conservatory and historic country kitchen with open hearth fireplace, ‘Bronte’ stone floors and hand crafted Butternut built-ins & trim. The ‘rod room’ is rich with wood built-ins, stone floors and a glass ceiling. Outside the kitchen door is the new stone & brick patio with a beautiful view of the Cherry Creek and new landscaping.
